President Nana Akufo-Addo has not tested positive for Coronavirus as most Ghanaians have been made to believe.

This revelation was made known by the president's medical practitioner Dr Patrina Takyi-Ankrah, who spoke at a press meeting organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Information on Wednesday.

According to the doctor, other high government officials have also tested negative to the disease including the Minister of Health.

“On the day before the President’s birthday, we tested him and the First Lady and his daughters and all the staff of his household and I am happy to announce that all the tests came back negative,” she said.

Earlier in March, some news portals published that President Nana Akufo-Addo and Yaw Osafo Maafo (Senior Minister)  had tested positive for COVID-19.

These publications were as a result of a statement by a social commentator, Kelvin Ebo Taylor who said in a televised broadcast that a source reaching him from the Presidency had indicated that the President had tested positive for the deadly virus.

She said the tests were done based on a policy that all top officials and frontline workers dealing with issues regarding COVID-19 in the country be examined themselves.

Dr Takyi Ankrah added that close family members of the president together with all the 99 staff at the presidency have been tested for the virus and the results were all negative.

She said “A day after his birthday, we continued to test the people in his secretariat including myself because we tend to deal with him on these bases and as I speak now, a total of 99 people have been tested and the results have come back negative. We are continuing the process and as and when we complete, we are hoping that everybody will test negative”.

Dr Takyi-Ankrah said categorically that the president is observing the recommend protocols provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) including hand washing and social distancing.
